If you are about to buy a J-Station or already have one and want to use the Johnson J-Edit computer software with the J-Station you will need a proper, quality Midi Adapter. First off, DO NOT waste your money on the inexpensive, cheap USB to MIDI devices that litter e-bay for under $10 dollars, they do not work! I reapeat they do not work with the J-Station, they are not capable of transferring SYSEX files to and from the unit to your computer. Secondly, the cheap chinese adapters do not work with Windows Vista, Windows 7 and beyond. I learned the hard way by wasting money on these devices. Windows 7 would not even recognize the device and drivers are non existent, which you will instantly realize. In fact, the sellers on Ebay claim their products do not need a driver when in fact they do, unfortunately no matter how long and hard you try to find a driver you will have zero success as they do not exist! These cheap USB devices are easy to spot, they are commonly stamped with a music note and say USB MIDI on them, other versions look the same but will have different lettering, but all of them are black plastic. Some even come in fancy packaging, but they are still the same unit. The Ebay thieves probably only pay 50 pennies for these pieces of junk and turn around and sell them to you for $5 or more! Now, if you want a MIDI adapter, buy these brands, M-audio, Roland, Alesis, Yamaha, iConnectivity mio and other brands. Before you buy, ensure that it comes with a driver and or has a website with end user support. Youtube is another great place to do research on the product you want to buy. In fact, if you do a search for the cheap Chinese adapters you will find that 99% of everyone who has purchase one of these Ebay nightmares has thrown their's in the rubbish bin. If you need assistance, ask me and I will attempt to help you.
